About the Artist

I am a twenty-five year old living on the east coast of the US of A, and I have a passion for art. I live at home with my adorable cat Serenity, and am taking some classes at the local community college while I work on improving my skills. I love music – I have played piano, the saxophone and clarinet over the years, my favorite genres being jazz and rock. I read incessantly, though the majority of it is in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section. I also love games: card games, board games, PC games and console games.

I like to get out and experience new things, whether it’s a new restaurant or new book, and every time I broaden my horizons a bit more it influences my outlook and my art.

I started doodling in high school, but it wasn’t until I went to college that I got a sketchbook and wanted to be an artist. I took some basic art classes, but I’m mostly self taught. I wanted to become an artist because I really enjoy creating; it hadn’t really occurred to me that I could make money from it as well, until I was encouraged in that direction. I get asked where I get my inspiration from, and the simple answer is life. It’s much harder to get inspired if you don’t go out and interact with people and see new places. Dreams and conversations with my friends tend to make me itch to sketch.

I try to work on something artistic everyday. It can be a still life sketch or anime-esque doodles if I’m away from my computer, or spending an hour refining details in a digital painting at home, or research into different techniques. If my creative muse is beating me in the back of the head I can paint all day and get several pictures done. But it generally takes me a couple of days to finish a painting. I do a lot of practice with reference photos since I’m trying to improve my realism skills.

I use Painter X and my Wacom Intuos tablet to do all my digital paintings from the beginning sketch to completion.
